Packet8 MobileTalk Launches

8×8, provider of Packet8 broadband VoIP services, today announced the launch of Packet8 MobileTalk – a mobile calling service that utilizes a downloadable software application that can currently reside on any Windows, Palm or Symbian based mobile phone.

The gist of this is, if you make a lot of overseas calls from your cell phone, this new service can probably save you some money – perhaps quite a bit of money. Though 8×8 is not the first to offer such a service (the article linked above mentions some of the competitors), they go about it in a somewhat unique manner that may result in better call quality. Also, you don’t need to have data service on your phone to utilize their service, as is the case with some of their competition.

  1. Packet8 MobileTalk could be done much better

    When Packet8 presented MobileTalk I was fascinated, but just for some seconds. Then I thought: What a lost opportunity! It could have been such a great application, if it 1.) hadn’t such an expensive basic fee, 2.) wasn’t bound to one particular VoIP…
